For Artsen zonder Grenzen (Docters Without Borders) we designed and built the Doneer je profiel (Donate your profile) campaign. To show that you find emergency help important you can donate your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn profile for one day to Artsen zonder Grenzen. It’s very simple. To donate you simply click on any of the social networks your own. You simply give Artsen zonder Grenzen permission to update your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn profile during 24 hours. They can send updates on your behalf such as news facts, photos and videos. Friends within your network can of course read these updates, creating a viral effect. From the first day the campaign has been very successful and thousands have donated their profile since. From a technological point view the most interesting parts are the things the visitors never get to see. The whole campaign has extensive connections with the API’s of each social network. We created a custom CMS to send the profile updates to all social networks with just the click of one button. With the large volume of messages to send we also had to create an effective queuing system. This system will deliver the updates in a timely matter to all social networks, so not all profiles are updated at the same time.
